An enterprising economics major at University of California Santa Barbara has set up Santa Barbara County's first bitcoin ATM at a deli in the surrounding community of Isla Vista, according to a report by Daily Nexus.
Third-year student Harrison Blaufuss established the bitcoin ATM company Coind LLC with a friend; the two currently operate a second machine 60 miles away in Agoura Hills and plan to open a third in Oxnard, which lies between the two communities.
Blaufuss told the publication that the purchase-only bitcoin ATM in Isla Vista has sold approximately $600–$900 daily since its installation last month. The owner of the Deli Mart said that, so far, it's mostly a curiosity to customers.
Blaufuss said that he has sold all of his own bitcoin holdings. "The market right now is just trash," he told Daily Nexus. " … But it's a good time to buy right now, because everything is so cheap."
