The ATM Industry Association has published its latest manual, "Defending Against ATM Explosive Attacks — Best Practices Digest."
The publication offers minimum security guidelines and best practices for protecting ATM systems from the spreading threat of explosive attacks, particularly in European nations, according to a press release.
"I'd like to congratulate the world's most recognizable ATM security expert, Douglas Russell, on another highly effective manual which will help to defend ATMs against this kind of brute force attack," ATMIA CEO Mike Lee said in the release.
The guide begins by defining and illustrating in detail the types and methods of explosive attacks.
Then Russell provides information to help deployers enhance perimeter and building security, and tips on choosing the appropriate security solution from those currently available in the market, including banknote degradation technologies and explosive-resistant safes.
Such defensive steps will be important in combating the threat, Lee said.
The guide is posted on the ATMIA website for download by association members.
The ATM Industry Association, founded in 1997, is a global non-profit trade association with over 10,500 members in 65 countries. The membership base covers the full range of this worldwide industry comprising over 2.2 million installed ATMs.
