BBVA USA will open 15 branches across Texas, the bank's top U.S. market, according to a press release.

The branches are slated to open in early 2021.

Houston-based BBVA USA said opening branches at a time when digital transactions are increasing reinforces the idea that customers build strong face-to-face relationships with branch staff.

"Though COVID-19 has expedited the migration of transactions from branches to digital channels, for the short term if not longer, the fact remains that banking is a people business," Larry Franco, BBVA USA head of retail, said in the release. "We recognize the power of the digital channel but have an equally strong belief that banking is not an either/or scenario. There are pivotal moments in banking that require deep understanding, and during them, our bankers will offer solutions and highlight our relevant digital capabilities. This combines the best of both worlds."

The branches are part of the bank's five-year strategic plan to help clients improve financial health. The bank 30% of the branch expansion will be located in low-to-moderate income communities.

To maximize customer experience, the 15 branches will feature a one-stop Personal Banker bar where customers can sit with the same team member that processes transactions and open accounts or learn about the bank's digital capabilities. The branches will also feature data-driven customer insights to provide personalized recommendations for a specific customer based on the transactional behavior and relationship.

Branches will also feature a dedicated area for bankers to proactively contact customers about the latest products or services available at the bank.
