icCheshireOnline: Barclays Bank is developing a new device to thwart card skimming at ATMs. The new anti-skimming device would prevent fraudsters from attaching their devices to the machines.
Skimming, in which crooks attach devices to ATMs that harvest card data when ATM users insert their cards, rose by 30 percent in 2003 in the UK.
Barclays is testing the device, which can be retro-fitted to ATMs and will make it impossible for skimmers to attach their gadgets.
There are 52,000 ATMs in the UK, 2,800 of them owned by Barclays.
