Bank Rhode Island adds SUM surcharge-free ATMs

January 29, 2002

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Bank Rhode Island has become the latest member of SUM, a program administered by the NYCE Corporation that is designed to help minimize ATM fees for customers of its member financial institutions. SUM Program members agree to provide surcharge-free transactions at designated ATMs for the customers of all participating institutions.

A total of 411 financial institutions offer their customers surcharge-free access to over 2,500 ATMs throughout New England, including 85 in Rhode Island.

Bank Rhode Island has been working on expanding ATM access for its customers. Last year, the bank signed an agreement with Atlas ATM, an area ISO, to bring an additional 51 off-site machines into the Bank Rhode Island network. With the addition of the SUM Program, the Bank's customers can now access more than 140 ATMs in the state without incurring a convenience fee.
