Bank of Ireland to add ATMs

May 29, 2002

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Bank of Ireland (BOI) plans to install 200 ATMs around the country during the next year, according to a report in Business & Finance magazine. in a E3m development.

Des Crowley, BOI's chief executive of retail banking and distribution, said in an interview with the magazine that the bank hopes the investment of approximately three million euros will encourage customers to stop using bank branches to access cash.

"It is inefficient for customers to come into the branches for cash," Crowley said. "Our sense is that there are alternative ways to meet these needs."

The bank's move comes at a time when a number of UK indepedent ATM operators are reportedly considering placing ATMs at venues such as pubs and nightclubs throughout the country.
