Bahrain ATM network links to Saudi network

February 13, 2002

BAHRAIN -- ATM cardholders in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia can use their cards in either country as Bahrain's ATM shared network (Benefit) has been linked to the Saudi ATM shared network, according to a report in the Bahrain Tribune.

The integration went into effect on Feb. 10, Bahrain Monetary Agency Executive Director Khalid Al Bassam told the Tribune.

"As a result, tourists and visitors from Bahrain can withdraw cash equivalent to BD500 (U.S. $1,325) per day at any ATM in Saudi Arabia. Similarly, Saudi tourists can enjoy this facility in Bahrain," Al Bassam said.

According to Al Bassam, Saudi Arabia is the fourth Gulf Cooperation Council country linked to the Benefit network after Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
