A grassroots campaign aimed to protest cashless society in Australia fell short. The campaign, called Cash Out Day, called on Australians to withdraw large sums of cash from banks, ATMs and retailers, according to a report by Yahoo! Finance.
The point of the campaign, according to organizer Jason Bryce, was to drain cash reserves to show banks the importance of cash. However, the Australian Banking Association found cash withdrawals on Cash Out Day, on April 22 ,was actually around 20% to 30% lower than the week prior.
Jason Bryce organized this protest last year as well, but the ABA also saw no major difference in withdrawals last year.
