ATMIA's security alliance gets new members

CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- The United States Secret Service, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria and Amsec International have joined the ATM Industry Association's (ATMIA) Global ATM Security Alliance (GASA), which was established earlier this year.

According to a news release, GASA will commence activities on July 23, with an international conference call to finalize its terms of reference and divide members into project teams.

Abdu Mukhtar, special adviser to the executive chairman, will represent the EFCC, which was established in 2002 through an act of Nigeria's National Assembly. The EFCC has a wide range of responsibilities and powers, including the investigation of all financial crimes in the country, enforcement of all economic and financial crimes laws, seizure of proceeds from terrorist activities and economic and financial crimes, and the adoption of measures to eradicate economic and financial crime in Nigeria.

Special Agent Gregg James will represent the Secret Service, which is now part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Amsec International is well-respected in the field of ATM and cash-in-transit risk management and has more than 20 years of experience in creating solutions for mitigating security risk. The company's president, Mark Lowers, will serve on GASA.

In addition to the new members, GASA is made up of Visa International, MasterCard International, the Flying Squad New Scotland Yard (UK), Europol, South African Banking Risk Intelligence Centre (SABRIC), the South African Fraud Prevention Services, Banksys(Belgium), Interac(Canada), PULSE EFT Association (U.S.), LINK Interchange Network (UK), Cashcard Australia, British Bankers Association, Australian Bankers Association, APACS (UK), ATMIA, the Electronic Funds Transfer Association (EFTA), NCR, Triton, Securitas (UK and Europe), EFT Data and Secure Matrix India.
