ATMIA to host 1st Asian conference in April

September 14, 2004

SYDNEY - The ATM Industry Association is producing "ATMs & Electronic Banking in Asia," its first conference and exhibition in Asia, April 7-8 in Hong Kong.

The Smart Card Society of China (SCFC) and the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association will assist ATMIA in reaching this market with the message of securing delivery of financial products and services through multiple electronic channels.

Frank Xu, president of the SCFC, will give an overview of the phenomenal growth of bank cards in China. A representative from the Link Interchange Network, the United Kingdom's national ATM network, will discuss the history and impact of ATM surcharging in the UK. The Global ATM Security Alliance will share its security best practices across the whole ATM business lifecycle, from cardholder to cyber security.

Other topics to be covered include: an overview of ATM growth prospects for Asia; the debit card in Asia; multifunctional ATMs; Internet banking and the future of electronic payments in Asia; mobile wallets; electronic and ATM bill payments; and preparing for the ATM's cyber era.

Several new global ATM technologies will be exhibited at the conference. A cocktail reception at the end of Day One will create further networking opportunities.

"We aim to produce a niche trade show focusing on ATMs as a critical channel in the electronic banking arsenal," said Mike Lee, ATMIA's CEO. "It will be a showcase for ATMIA Asia, which will be formally launched at the event."
