ATMIA, Smart Card Alliance to work together in Latin American market

April 25, 2016

The ATM Industry Association and Smart Card Alliance Latin America have announced a collaboration agreement for the Latin America market.

One of the organizations' first joint initiatives will be to promote the use of the region's ATMs to replenish transportation cards. The program would make additional use of existing banking infrastructure, and would benefit the unbanked who comprise a significant portion of the population in some Latin American countries.

The two associations also share a mutual interest in EMV migration and security services; creating a formal framework for collaboration will facilitate their joint efforts in these and other areas.

David Tente, executive director of the Latin America chapter of ATMIA, will speak on the role of ATMs in the digital era at the upcoming SCALA Digital Tour Americas 2016 event in Panama City, Panama, June 15-17.

Likewise, SCALA Associate Director Edgar Betts will play a role in the ATMIA Latin America conference in 2017. The groups also will cross-promote activities and programs as appropriate.

"This new relationship is a very complementary one for both parties," Tente said. "It offers ATMIA Latin America an increased level of visibility with the region's major banks. And SCALA gains greater exposure in the ATM channel."
