ATMIA sharpens focus on India

The ATM Industry Association has tasked regional executive director Patrick Cunningham with increasing the organization's visibility in the Indian market.

The ATM Industry Association has announced that regional executive director Patrick Cunningham will step down from management of ATMIA Africa in order to focus on the rapidly growing ATM market in India. He will also oversee ATMIA activities in the Middle East.

"I see the challenge of developing ATMIA's role in India as of the greatest importance to the growth of the organization," Cunningham said in a press release. "The government in India has indicated that it wishes to see at least one ATM in every village in India by 2020.

"Add to this the urban growth on the subcontinent and predictions that its population will overtake that of China by 2018 and it is clear that the opportunity for ATMIA in the region is tremendous, but will require careful considerations of culture and business generally."

Cunningham also said that changes now occurring in the Middle East, particularly with regard to Iran, will present opportunities to develop ATMIA membership in the region.

ATMIA CEO Mike Lee expressed confidence in Cunningham's ability to establish strong roots for the organization in India.

"India is the world's largest democracy as well as one of the ATM industry's fastest-growing markets," he said. "Working with members, sponsors and partners operating in India, I'm sure Patrick will lead ATMIA India to a new level through serving the collective interests of the wider industry and I wish him every success in his new role."

ATMIA will shortly make an announcement about the supervision of its ATMIA Africa chapter, the release said.
