ATMIA seeking sponsors for research study

June 2, 2003

CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- The ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) is partnering with Dayton, Ohio-based Accelera Research and London-based Retail Banking Research (RBR), to conduct the association's first-ever industry research project.

The research will focus on Site Selection and Security Best Practices for Off-premise ATMs, the topic voted "most valuable" in an online survey of ATMIA members completed in April.

ATMIA hopes the study will promote its vision for the global advancement and proliferation of ATMs, according to a news release.

Lana Harmelink, ATMIA's international director of operations, said that jointly funded industry research will save on the cost of commissioning research while at the same time benefiting the industry as a whole by highlighting solutions for improved ways of doing business.

"Research-based decision-making is a smart way of doing business in today's world," said Peter Kulik, managing director of Accelera Research, which conducted the online survey to determine the most pressing research topics. "Decisions based on the most up-to-date information, and on an assessment of current trends in the market, can give a competitive edge to companies that take the trouble to invest in research so that their strategic thinking is in line with the big picture."

Dominic Hirsch, managing director of RBR and an executive board member of ATMIA, will co-direct the research project with Kulik. "I believe this Site Selection and Security Best Practices survey will produce some first-class results to improve the way ATMs are located and securely installed,"  he said in the release.

ATMIA is contributing 2 percent of its membership revenues to the research effort. However, the association is seeking potential sponsors to help cover costs.

According to the release, sponsorship benefits depend on the level of sponsorship purchased, and can include: Input into the research questionnaire, to include items of particular interest to a sponsor -- which would otherwise require a unique research effort; public attribution and visibility as a sponsor; display of a logo or company name on a new "Jointly-Funded Research" Web page for all four ATMIA sites, linked to the sponsor's Web site; access to all data from the research study in a special "Sponsor's Report" -- including unpublished data; and complimentary copies of the Research Report for internal use and for use as sales collateral for prospects and customers.
