BROOKINGS, S.D.-The ATM Industry Association's Debit Council has published a point-of-sale customer guide that includes tips for preventing fraud during POS transactions. A shorter version of the guide, entitled "Top Five Tips for POS Transactions," also has been produced, the association said in a news release.
The guides group security tips under three headings: "Check the Area Around the POS Device," "Stay Focused during Transaction" and "Protect your PIN, Card and Account."
The guide is set to launch with the Global ATM Security Alliance and Fair Isaac's publication, "Best Practices for Protecting the Customer's Personal Bank Account and Identity." The international manual brings together best practices for multichannel security and identity theft prevention.
ATMIA's Debit Council also is drafting international best practices for the POS security lifecycle. The POS cardholder security tips form part of those lifecycle best practices.
