ATMIA confirms Oct. 17–19 dates for 2018 European summit in Madrid

October 26, 2017

The ATM Industry Association has reaffirmed that the ATM & Payments Innovation Summit, will take place Oct. 17–19 next year in Madrid, as announced in September.

"We consulted with many of our members and gained a large measure of support for both moving our flagship conference to the European mainland and into the October scheduling," ATMIA CEO Mike Lee said in a press release.

Lee expressed frustration that, after moving the ATMIA summit date to avoid a scheduling conflict with an RBR-sponsored ATM event in September, RBR had scheduled its 2018 conference to fall one week prior to the ATMIA summit.

The two organizations co-sponsored a single event for years, but parted ways in late 2016. Both held ATM conferences in September 2017, a situation that forced many attendees to choose between events.

"By once again deliberately placing one of their conferences in exactly the same time period as an ATMIA event, RBR has reneged on the spirit of our earlier discussions to avoid the kind of scheduling conflicts which were so destructive for the industry in 2017," Lee said.

"In my view, RBR have dishonored the relationship that the ATMIA was generous enough to grant them for so many years and, indeed, are letting down the entire ATM Industry with their ongoing unreasonable conduct regarding conference scheduling."

Timing issues aside, the 2018 summit has already sparked interest among industry stakeholders, according to ATMIA Europe Executive Director Ron Delnevo.

"We have already been contacted by many potential speakers, sponsors and trade exhibitors," he said. "That so many people want to commit at this early stage, underlines the esteem in which the ATMIA and our events are held in the financial services industry as a whole."
