The ATM Industry Association has announced plans to celebrate its 20th anniversary during 2017. The celebration coincides with ATMIA events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ATM, which was introduced in 1967 at a Barclays Bank branch in London.
An ATMIA press release said that the organization will "roll out the red carpet" at its Feb. 14–17 conference in Orlando, Florida, with a theme of spotlighting "20 Years of Winning with our Members." Other ATMIA events will mark the occasion, as well.
"These past 20 years have been full of growth for the ATM industry," said ATMIA CEO Mike Lee. "As ATM technology and the range of operators and service providers expanded, so our membership and services grew to better serve a thriving industry."
The association has created a logo to mark the occasion, and will celebrate the dual anniversaries in a year-long blog series featuring major players from the global ATM industry, and their stories of success, love, innovation and the future of the ATM.
Attendees at the ATMIA U.S. conference will also have the opportunity to experience a specially created museum room showcasing the history of the ATM and the industry, the release said.
"ATMIA's work to develop guidelines and best practices is a key component in helping the industry continue to move forward, even in the face of regular compliance and regulatory challenges," said Chris Chandler, ATMIA board chairman and CEO of Access Cash, Canada's largest independent ATM deployer. "The association's research into cash trends has been especially essential to dispelling fears promoted by the ongoing ‘war on cash'."
