The recent release of two industry studies - EFT Data Book 2005 Edition, issued by ATM & Debit News, and 2004 ATM Deployer Study, prepared by Dove Consulting - has generated a flurry of articles about declining ATM transaction volumes. In this white paper, Diebold, Inc., issues a word of caution, saying these numbers have value as a means of comparing transaction activity within the defined segments of the ATM industry, but by trying to apply absolute value to these figures, some analysts/reporters are drawing conclusions that may not be justified.
