ATM thefts increased by 10% last year

The number of thefts of ATMs in the U.S. increased by 10% in 2021, according to data from the FBI's Bank Crime Statistics. There were 254 thefts in 2021, compared to 229 in 2020, according to a report by Claims Journal.

The FBI only reported 31 thefts in 2019, and then saw a 600% increase in 2020. Typically criminals use stolen equipment to smash-and-grab the machines.
