In India, a young man figured out how to turn an ATM machine into machine that dispenses milk to the townspeople of Metpalli 24-hours a day, according to a report in Telangana Today.

The idea for the milk ATM came from Jakka Subash who had been working in the corn fodder manufacturing business. During the coronavirus pandemic, a small group of dairies that had previously bought Subash's corn fodder were forced to close, which in turn affected his business. In trying to figure out a way to support the small dairies, he came up with the idea of a milk ATM machine and the response from the public was overwhelmingly positive.

The machine is easy for the public to operate and understand, Once a customer places a bank note or coins in the ATM, a scanner fixed in the machine scans the currency and sends a message to the internal operating system to drop a specific quantity of milk. The ATM has a 500-litre storage capacity and a chilling machine fitting inside so it can store milk up to 48 hours without spoiling.

Subash procures the milk from the local dairies and the machine generally about 100 to 150 liters of milk a day. Subash is planning to order additional ATM machines for other locations.
