ATM lottery ticket sales to pilot test in MO

May 31, 2013

Missouri looks set to become the second state to offer lottery ticket sales at ATMs and fuel pumps. The state lottery commission will launch a pilot-test of the concept this fall.

According to a report by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, ATM ticket sales will roll out at 100 ATMs in Kansas City and St. Louis, initially. In addition, 15 gas stations (150 pumps in total) will participate in the test.

Depending on consumer response, the pilot could be expanded to more locations. "We have already gotten a lot of interest," said Judy Gehrke, CFO for the Missouri Lottery.

Judging by the success of Minnesota's program, expansion seems probable. Minnesota State Lottery executive director Ed Van Petten told the Post-Dispatch that his state's program has been running smoothly since its launch last November. "It's not a ton of sales, but everything's working appropriately."

Players in the Missouri lottery will automatically see the lottery option when they insert their debit cards at the ATM. Payouts of less than $600 go directly to the winner's debit card.
