ATM locator goes mobile in Canada

March 24, 2003

NEW ORLEANS -- MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) has teamed with MasterCard to create what it says is the first mobile ATM locator.

According to a news release, the MapInfo-powered ATM locator enables TELUS Mobility PCS and Mike clients across Canada to locate more than 35,000 MasterCard, Maestro or Cirrus ATMs using their mobile phones.

The locator integrates directly with MasterCard's database of more than 35,000 Canadian ATMs and is now available on a "pay per use" basis over TELUS Mobility's PCS and Mike digital wireless networks. Mobile phone users can enter a location such as a street address or landmark on their handsets, and receive the location of the closest ATM.

According to the release, TELUS Mobility clients can also customize the application by selecting a preferred bank and requesting only its ATM locations.

Tatiana Mulry, MasterCard's vice president of information products and services, said in the release that MasterCard plans to make the MapInfo-powered ATM locator available to wireless subscribers in other parts of the world.
