ATM beats the rap

December 3, 2001

LOS ANGELES -- Rapper Eve will play a thief who unsuccessfully tries to rob an ATM in her feature acting debut in MGM's comedy "Barbershop," according to a report in the Hollywood Reporter.

Shooting for the film, which takes place during the course of one day at a barbershop on Chicago's South Side, begins on Jan. 15. Eve's co-star will be rapper-actor Ice Cube, whose production company, CubeVision, is co-producing along with State Street Pictures.

The Philadelphia-born rap star and Interscope recording artist, whose real name is Eve Jihan Jeffers, has worked with such hip-hop legends as Dr. Dre and DMX. Through DMX, she became part of the Ruff Ryders crew. In 1999, she released her first full-length album, "Eve: First Lady of the Ruff Ryders."
