Amrotec, a trademark of Amro-Asian Trade Inc., has acquired US Patent 11,321,988 for counting, denominating, sorting and then disinfecting currency with UV-C rays. The company's Speed-Currency Denominators with a Germicidal UV-C Disinfection System can eliminate up to 80% of bacteria on bills at a speed of 800 bills per minute, according to a press release.
The disinfection system is automatic and uses UV-C LEDs to irradiate banknotes from underneath. The LEDs turn off automatically when the device is not in operation. This method can also integrate with other devices such as teller cash recyclers or ATMs.
"Such a retrofitting task would require minimal engineering effort for Amrotec," Mahbub Siddiqui, president, Amrotec, said in the release. "It is now time for the cash equipment industry to equip cash processing devices with disinfection systems for the greater benefit of the public as well as for financial institutions, retailers and casinos to be able to provide additional protection for their cash handling employees."
