AML Software is suing Athena Bitcoin over allegedly stealing its source code for its bitcoin ATMs, according to a report by decrypt.
The legal action adds to Athena Bitcoin's existing legal woes, as the Washington D.C. General Brian L. Schwalb is suing the company over allegations of profiting from elderly victims of scams.
AML Software claims that some years ago Athena Bitcoin acquired a number of bitcoin ATMs from SandP Solutions, which ran on AML Software's code. Later, Jordan Mirch, CEO of Taproot Acquisition Enterprises, allegedly brought on a consultant from AML Software to Athena Bitcoin as a way to try to "wrongfully acquire AML's copyrighted source code," from the ATMs.
"It is believed that Athena was fully aware that the Source Code and software platform that Mirch and the Taproot Entities planned to transfer belonged to AML," the lawsuit states.
Athena Bitcoin previously had a revenue sharing agreement with Taproot until it ended this earlier in September as part of a $9 million settlement.
The attorney general's lawsuit claims the company wasn't upfront about its high fees of to 26% and that it made the majority of its profits from scam victims.
