A man facing charges of blowing up an ATM at a North DeKalb Mall in Georgia had eight pipe bombs in his home in Decatur, Georgia. A federal complaint claims he was scouting out additional ATM locations to bomb while under surveillance, according to a report by decauturish.com.
The suspect allegedly approached a Bank of America ATM in the drive-thru of its mall location and used a pry bar to make a hole in the ATM and inserted two hoses from his car into the hole.
"Investigators believe that the tubing fed in a fuel, gas, or other accelerants into the ATM. The subject then affixed what appeared to be a metal pipe to the front exterior side of the ATM. The pipe appeared to be a few inches long and included two endcaps and wiring extending toward the vehicle," the federal complaint states.
He then allegedly detonated the pipe comb remotely and Bank of America lost $88,780 in the attack. It is not clear how much if any of the cash was destroyed in the explosion.
