Airtel Money card gives Kenyans access to ATM cash

February 21, 2014

Airtel Money has partnered with Visa and Chase Bank to offer its subscribers an Airtel Money Visa card. The card allows subscribers to withdraw cash from their Airtel Money accounts at approximately 2 million Visa network ATMs and millions more Visa-accepted merchants worldwide.

In-country, the Airtel-Chase partnership will give customers access to more than 10,000 Visa merchants and more than 2,500 ATMs. Customers may apply for a Visa card at any Airtel outlet or at Chase Bank branches across Kenya.

Airtel Kenya managing director Shivan Bhargava said the partnership will diversify mobile money and banking services and ensure that customers get added value from their services.

"With the ever-changing face of monetary transactions — debit and credit cards and online dealings — customers have become more techno savvy, decisive and particular about their cash transactions and overall experience," Bhargava said. "Thus we have to reinvent and innovate so that we can profitably meet the ever-changing tastes and preferences of customers."

Airtel ventured into the local mobile commerce business three years ago. The company also provides e-commerce solutions that include online payments, online banking, and bill payments for electricity, DSTV and water.

Airtel Money boasts a dealer network of more than 15,000 active agents including banks, bank agents, supermarket chains and Posta outlets.
