A new use for Bitcoin: Crowdfunded assassinations

Bitcoin and crowdfunding would seem to be well matched online innovations. Unfortunately, one site on the notorious Deep Web has teamed them up for a highly nefarious purpose.

According to iacknowledge.net, one underground site is accepting Bitcoin as crowdfunding for the assassination of public figures. One unidentified target has drawn $125,000 in contributions.

An investigation by D.C.-based Digital Citizens Alliance made the discovery, which it included in an extensive investigative report. The group declined to name the public figure, for security reasons.

The operator of the site claims a "deep-rooted hate against oppressive regimes," iacknowledge.net said.
