An 8-year old Chinese girl from Quzhou, Zhejiang providence China was separated from her grandfather while returning from dancing class. She had no way to contact her family members, so she pressed a button on an ATM at a Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank branch and a staff member spoke to her through the intercom system, according to a report by South China Morning Post.
The staff member Zhou Dongying spoke to the girl and contacted police who were able to reunite the girl with her grandfather.
The bank's ATMs had an emergency call button, which customers can press to get in touch with the bank's monitoring center. This isn't the first time lost children have pressed the emergency button on ATMs. IN February 2021, a five-year-old boy in Hubei province used an ATM to reunite with his family.
