Describe your current role
As vice president, banking hardware solutions, I oversee the business and go-to-market strategies for Diebold Nixdorf's ATM systems, technologies and foundational software. I partner with our customers to design technical solutions that align with their business objectives, ensuring efficient operations that maximize their return on investment. Additionally, I lead the integration of the voice of the customer into the new product development, ensuring a sustained, customer-centric portfolio.
What inspired you to work in your industry?
I am passionate about building strong, lasting relationships and driving growth with innovative solutions. What inspired me to work in the financial services industry was the strong, collaborative culture, which embraces new solutions to tackle business challenges. This has provided me with the opportunity to be creative in designing various automation technologies that have expanded access to cash, made banking operations more cost-efficient and reduced friction in customer journeys.
On a personal level, I have observed tremendous growth in diversity in the industry over the past 20 years. The rise of women in leadership positions has helped to foster greater innovation and more inclusive solutions.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
I enjoy working closely with customers to solve problems that directly contribute to their company's success. One of my main priorities has been to help customers manage their cash costs more effectively. The cost of cash is estimated to account for approximately 50% of total ATM operating expenses and is increasing faster than any other cost. Assisting customers in implementing ATM cash recyclers has been crucial in enhancing their payment flexibility and operational efficiency. Automating their cash management processes with our cash recycling systems has allowed our customers to decrease teller cash-handling time by as much as 90% and reduce CIT costs by up to 80%. With fewer manual tasks to handle, staff spend more time on meaningful customer interactions, which enhances both employee and customer satisfaction.
I am grateful for the opportunity to design solutions that simplify workflows, enhance usability, and optimize efficiency, which is incredibly gratifying.
What is one career achievement you're most proud of?
One of my most significant achievements has been developing an easy-to-use, award-winning ATM family that has expanded access to cash for unbanked and underbanked communities in over 100 countries. ATMs are an important bridge between the physical and digital worlds, particularly for demographics that rely on cash for purchasing essentials and accessing vital services.
Additionally, I am proud that my work helps solve our customers' business challenges and, more importantly, enhances the experiences of their consumers. By automating and digitizing the consumer experience, this allows financial institutions to continue to provide exceptional customer service while managing their cost with a single cash branch ecosystem. Our customers have seen a shortage of skilled resources, a sharp increase in workforce costs and the elevated cost of cash. To maintain exceptional customer service while efficiently managing their costs, it was crucial to deliver the right technological solution.
What industry trends do you think are currently over-hyped and why?
The rise of digital payments does not mean the end of physical cash. The industry is navigating a hybrid landscape where digital interactions are increasing, yet cash demand remains prevalent. Cash in circulation remains high and is not going away. Cash is a cornerstone of financial inclusion, resilience and customer satisfaction. It remains an essential, secure, and universally accessible payment method, offering privacy, budgeting control, and reliability during digital outages or natural disasters.
Cash ensures anonymity, avoids merchant fees, and serves the unbanked, making it indispensable for millions. In fact, a recent YouGov survey found that 90% of consumers consider access to cash influential in their bank choice. Offering digital transactions, such as contactless and e-receipts, will help to bridge the gap between physical and digital payment methods.
What industry trends do you think don't get enough attention and why?
ATMs are prime, evolving targets for attacks, threatening cash, sensitive customer data and brand reputation. However, ATM security is often overlooked by financial institutions, mainly due to the cost of modernizing legacy systems or prioritization of other initiatives like digital banking over physical infrastructure enhancements. This oversight leads to many ATMs running outdated software or lacking protection against the latest threat vectors, making their fleet susceptible to physical and logical attacks.
As attacks increase in frequency and sophistication, it is essential to secure the entire ecosystem — from hardware to software — to maintain trust, compliance, and operational efficiency. Financial institutions should consider futureproofing their ATM fleets by adopting a proactive, multi-layered security strategy that combines physical, logical and operational safeguards to defend against emerging threats, ensuring that overlapping security measures are in place.
What do you do to have fun outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it's biking or hiking. Additionally, I like to travel and explore other cultures and cuisine, in addition to my passion for baking.
