Since 2 April 2026, public and private entities in Spain must accept MiDNI, the National Police’s official digital ID app, under the same terms as the physical ID card. For banks, identifying customers is a legal obligation under anti-money-laundering regulations, so branches need to read, verify and record MiDNI data as reliably as they do the physical document.
In this guide, Serquo explains what it takes to integrate MiDNI into existing branch infrastructure. It covers the three data levels customers can choose to share, and the four points where projects usually get stuck: readers not built for this QR code, systems that don’t talk to each other, dependence on hardware manufacturers, and the handling of sensitive personal data. It also walks through the five steps of a well-integrated validation flow, from the customer’s QR code to verified identity, with the transaction then following its usual process.
The guide closes with Serquo’s approach, which includes reader audits, XFS, XFS4IoT, J/XFS and REST API connectivity, and a manufacturer-independent abstraction layer, plus a five question checklist for banks preparing their MiDNI project. Serquo is a member of the XFS and J/XFS standardization committee and has been connecting self-service and financial devices since 1992.
