Plaintiffs Karen and Robert Lacey have filed a class action lawsuit in Idaho federal court against Bitcoin Depot.

The lawsuit alleges the crypto ATM company failed to protect and reimburse them following a scam where they deposited their life savings into a bitcoin ATM, according to a report on Top Class Actions.

According to the news outlet, the Laceys deposited $76,000 into a variety of Bitcoin Depot ATMs at the urging of scammers who claimed to be from the FBI. The scammers claimed the victim's bank accounts were tied to illegal activity. After filing a federal crime complaint, the Laceys claimed Bitcoin Depot only sent them two $1,000 refund checks, which didn't cover the fees.

As a result of this event, Karen Lacey had to begin working again, even though she was previously retired. The lawsuit demands punitive damages, injunctive relief and attorney's fees.

Bitcoin Depot recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing regulatory and business challenges.
