Diebold Inc. has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio alleging that ATMs by Nautilus Hyosung Inc. and its subsidiary, Nautilus Hyosung America Inc., infringe six Diebold patents.
The complaint claims that the infringed patents relate to key features of Hyosung products. In a news release, Diebold said that these technologies are important to its success as they enable it to better address the needs of customers and end-users through improved security, enhanced deposit automation and note dispensing functionality, and simplified maintenance.
Diebold is asking the trade commission to bar importation to the U.S. of all Hyosung products that infringe Diebold patents.
Additionally, the company is asking the district court to enjoin the importation, sale, and distribution of these products in the United States and award damages to Diebold for the infringement of its patents.
According to the release, the Diebold patent portfolio includes more than 1,000 patents, which the company is committed to "vigorously enforcing."
