Contour, DPL and OptConnect Form Coalition for Wireless ATM Connectivity

November 20, 2014

Coalition formed by leading wireless ATM providers designed to establish standards and improve security and reliability.

Las Vegas, NV November 19, 2014– During the National ATM Council meeting (NAC) in Las Vegas, NV leading ATM Wireless Technology providers announced the formation of the ATM Connectivity Coalition (ACC).  Due to the substantial growth of wirelessly-connected automated teller machines (ATMs), the need for standards in security, connectivity, and stability has likewise grown. The ATM Connectivity Coalition will address these needs, providing connectivity standards for this important industry.

The mission of the coalition is to advance, protect, and promote secure connectivity solutions for the financial transactions industry through education, establishment of standards, and advocacy.

“Privacy and security are on our minds more than ever before.  As leaders in the industry, we have a responsibility to financial institutions and the public to ensure the services we provide are stable and secure.  The ACC is designed to establish standards so we can continue to meet this need,” noted Chris Baird, Executive Vice President of OptConnect.

Founding organizers for the ACC are the leading providers of wireless services to the ATM market, including Contour Networks, The DPL Group, and OptConnect. As the work of the Coalition continues, members expect to engage with ATM manufactures, hardware manufacturers, additional wireless network providers, Host ATM processors and others.

“We are at a critical phase in the growth of the industry, and by cooperating across organizations, we can ensure the best service for the collective market.” says Marc Albert from the DPL Group. “We are proud to be joining forces with other market leaders as part of this important initiative.”

“The ATM Connectivity Coalition will become the trusted connectivity standards body by providing security leadership to the financial transactions industry,” says Marc Winn, Chief Security Officer of Japan Communications, the parent company of Contour Networks.  “We anticipate that payments networks and transactions processors will appreciate and embrace a set of standards that enable a more robust and secure transactions environment without placing an unreasonable burden on ATM operators.”

Along with its website, the ACC plans to release Version 1.0 of its standards by the end of 2014.  Its goal will be to place the bulk of the burden of security compliance on network providers rather than on ATM operators, thereby increasing the rate of compliance.  It is expected that the ACC Network Security Standard (NSS) will provide guidelines that will reduce security exposures and correspondingly reduce the scope of current or anticipated regulatory requirements for ATM operators.
