Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, which makes this annual observation almost as old as the ATM. In fact, you might say that the two have grown up together.

As Earth Day organizers have worked to raise awareness of the impact of industrial activity on the planet, ATM-makers and deployers have worked to reduce their imprint on the environment.

For Earth Day 2017, here are few examples of ways that the industry is working — directly and indirectly — to make the ATM a little greener year by year.
