Few Peruvians have bank accounts of their own. Peru is a country of envelopes “because nearly everybody goes to the
counter to deposit cash,” explains Manuel H. Velarde, electronic banking director at Interbank Peru.

The project‘s initial goal was to reduce the number of transactions at the counter – and the long lines – by moving cash dispensing, check deposits, cash deposits and invoice payments to self-service machines. At the same time, the machines needed to be able to handle two currencies – the Peruvian nuevo sol and the U.S. dollar.

With an initial installation 30 multifunction ATMs into the bank’s IT landscape, Interbank Peru has seen vast improvements.
