'Timing is everything,' would-be ATM robber discovers

Dec. 28, 2012

A security driver in Kuching, Malaysia, decided to help himself out of difficult financial straits this week by robbing his company's ATMs. And so, equipped with stolen keys to 15 machines, he set out to empty the first ATM — only to run into a team sent by the same company to fill it.

The suspect was trying to open the machine when he was surprised by the arrival of two members of a replenishment security team, said a report by The Star.

The two were at first confused and then suspicious about their colleague's presence. "Only one team will conduct the operation [and] he was only a driver," one security team member said.

Eventually, the driver admitted to the theft of the keys. He remains in police custody.
