PNB to set up self-service counters at 500 branches

India's Punjab National Bank has announced plans to extend 24/7 services to customers with the addition of advanced self-service counters in the bank's 500 branches.

According to a report from the Hindu Business Line, PNB Chairman and Managing Director K. R. Kamath said that by March of 2013, branches would be outfitted with multifunction self-service lobbies.

Facilities available would include cash and check deposit machines, passbook printing machines and cash dispensers — functions that currently make up 50 percent of all trips to the teller counter. Kamath said that automating these transactions would ensure that customers do not have to wait for service.
