European ATM co-op joins Pulse network

Dec. 13, 2012

EUFiserv Payments, a Brussels-based ATM cooperative owned by 10 European banks, and PULSE, the debit and ATM network subsidiary of Discover Financial Services, have entered into a strategic ATM participation agreement. More than 68 million cardholders served by 600 EUFiserv member banks will be able to participate in the PULSE Global ATM Network as the result of the new alliance.

The agreement will enable EUfiserv cardholders to conduct transactions at more than 850,000 ATMs belonging to the Pulse Global ATM Network. Implementation will come in two phases: The first will cover European markets, the second will cover other Pulse ATM markets where EUFiserv cardholders travel.

Gerd Förster, general manager of EUFiserv Payments, said the partnership aligns with with EUFiserv goals and provides an incentive for additional FIs to join the ATM scheme. "The new agreement with Pulse provides our issuing members with new options for ATM access. EUFiserv Scheme — as a SEPA-compliant scheme — is open to banks and other financial institutions. We continue to look for new opportunities to expand our scheme. Our partnership with Pulse is an example of that."

"By partnering with regional payments networks such as EUFiserv, Discover is able to leverage its unique set of assets to grow volume, while providing our partners with the global reach and localized preferences and needs they require," said Joe Hurley, vice president of global business development at Discover. "It's a win-win for everyone."
