I’ve taken the new NH-2700CE ATM by Nautilus Hyosung for a test drive and find it full of great new features for a low incremental price increase. With everything considered, I think the NH-2700CE is a big step forward. The machine has a sleek and classy design—a look that will complement the lobby of any high-end hotel or retail establishment, but is priced well enough to be placed in almost all types of locations.

The Customer (User) Point-of-View

The first thing I noticed was how vibrant the NH-2700CE’s large, high-resolution screen is. It is 10.2 inches wide and can be seen from any angle, which is great for viewing custom graphics.

The touch function keys on the side of the screen provide vibrating feedback when touched—a feature that can be turned on or off. This new touch technology compared to the traditional raised function keys is very responsive, even to the slightest touch.

The transaction prompts displayed on the screen provide the user an efficient way of navigating through the transaction without confusion. During my test transaction, I noticed that the indicator lights blink using a soft white color. Other ATMs, in my experience come with either blue or green indicator lights.

To bring additional customer attention to the ATM, an optional double-sided, illuminated and removable topper is also available. Otherwise, the machine comes standard with an integrated LED backlit ATM sign.

The Operator Point-of-View

I believe ATM Operators and technicians are going to love working with this machine. The NH-2700CE uses a newer interface based on Windows CE. The software and programming enhancements added to this machine are very impressive—in my experience, I’ve found these enhancements to save up to 30 percent in set up time.

One enhancement is the Setup Wizard, which allowed me to quickly add cash and change terminal info without navigating in and out of different menus. Especially for new programmers, the new Site Map is a great addition because it allows you to quickly locate sub-menus. When I wanted to program my Terminal ID, a quick solution was turning to the Site Map and from there I was able to quickly locate my desired menu—saving me several minutes of programming time.

The machine comes with a typical Nautilus Hyosung one-year warranty, but warranty parts have been hard to get—at least initially. When the machine first began shipping, customers were sometimes challenged with a screen that would dislodge and hang from the case. Nautilus Hyosung identified that the cause was in the shipping process, however, the problem looks to have been addressed and resolved since. Other early issues that users experienced were related to software and hardware integration. These issues have also been identified by Nautilus Hyosung, and through tests of our own, we’ve found that these early issues have been resolved.

ATM Operators may notice on the NH-2700CE that the dispenser, mainboard and printer differ from older Nautilus Hyosung models (i.e. the NH-1500), which are not interchangeable with the NH-2700CE. The same will be true for all new retail ATM models released by Nautilus Hyosung. These new components are robust, but for those who are used to interchanging parts of all models of Nautilus Hyosung ATMs, this may come as a frustration. 

One of the big benefits of the new parts found on the NH-2700CE is that the cash dispenser can be configured to hold up to three cassettes (versus only up to two cassettes on previous models) and can dispense up to six notes per second.

Another benefit is that vault door is much more secure than in previous models. Nautilus Hyosung added additional locking mechanisms to the sides of the vault door and created a unique lip around the seal to discourage prying. The door is also recessed further back into the case to make it much more difficult for external entry. This is an all around great enhancement to the security of the machine.

The Bottom Line

The NH-2700CE is a wonderful machine destined to be the new workhorse in the industry. With its advanced new features, time saving setup and maintenance enhancements, the NH-2700CE should prove to bring costs down and add dollars to the bottom line.

When you compile all of its enhancements, features and benefits, Operators will see more for their money from the NH-2700CE versus previous models in its class. No doubt, the NH-2700CE machine is paving the way for ATM expectations going forward.
