Turkish FI Türk Ekonomi Bankasi has updated its CEPTETEB (roughly translated "pocket TEB") mobile app for iPhone. Now CEPTETEB users can conduct cardless cash withdrawals at TEB ATMs with just a smartphone and a QR code.
According to a news release from TEB, it is the only bank in Turkey to have enabled cardless withdrawals via smartphone. The app allows the TEB customer to prestage a withdrawal by selecting the cash withdrawal function on the bank's mobile app, then choosing the account and designating the amount of cash to be withdrawn.
At the ATM, the customer simply scans the QR Code on the ATM screen with the smartphone. Funds may be withdrawn in Turkish, euro or dollar banknotes.
The mobile app also allows its user to transfer cash, buy and sell funds, and pay bills. All of these services are offered to customers free of charge.
"Users who start using mobile internet with their smart phones and tablet PC's especially via social media start carrying out banking transactions with these devices within six months to one year," said Deniz Devrim Cengiz, TEB alternative delivery channels director.
"The number of [TEB] mobile banking users has reached 1.6 million and we believe that this figure will increase rapidly in the upcoming period. In this respect we have accordingly updated CEPTETEB and brought it to the use of our customers," Cengiz said.
