NCR Corp. has purchased uGenius Technology Inc., a Utah-based video banking software developer. The acquisition will help NCR to add future enhancements to its APTRA Interactive Teller solution, which lets consumers conduct remote, assisted-teller transactions through an ATM.
NCR and uGenius first collaborated in 2011, when they built the first ATM that connects the customer at the machine directly with a live remote teller. In January 2012, NCR acquired a minority stake in uGenius.
According to NCR, approximately 95 percent of all teller transactions can be performed via APTRA Interactive Teller. Additional product sales and services provided by an in-branch teller can also be handled through APTRA Interactive Teller.
For instance, customers can perform secure transactions without a standard ATM card and withdraw cash from their accounts in excess of daily ATM limits, just as they would at a teller window.
Over the past year, several banks and credit unions have adopted the NCR video teller solution. In the first half of 2013, the company expects to launch pilots of APTRA Interactive Teller with a number of top 10 U.S. banks.
