Wincor Nixdorf has won a second A-plus rating from the Global Research Initiative, following its initial A-plus award in May of this year. The GRI standard was established in 1997 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program, and is the most widely recognized sustainability certification standard worldwide.
Wincor Nixdorf also subjected its sustainability report to an audit by DQS, the German organization for management systems certification. A successful DQS audit is the prerequisite for winning the “plus” designation, the highest rating awarded by GRI.
Using more than 100 indicators to measure the transparency of all aspects of sustainability, GRI assessed three key aspects of the Wincor Nixdorf report:
- ecology — materials deployment, energy saving, emissions and waste;
- economy — economic performance and market presence;
- social — health and safety, humane work, training and continuing education.
To instil sustainability into the organization, Wincor Nixdorf has expanded the content of its corporate mission statement and documents — process descriptions, guidelines, code of conduct and management manual — to include sustainability aspects.
The company has also endeavored to boost awareness of sustainability among employees. During the reporting period, Wincor Nixdorf employees submitted more than 1,300 ideas offering economic, ecological or social benefits.
