In keynote speeches, senior execs from American Express, Discover, Isis, MasterCard, Visa and the Utah Transit Authority will discuss the progress of EMV migration and mobile payments at the Smart Card Alliance 2013 Payments Summit, Feb 5–7 at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The summit will open with keynote presentations and discussion panels before sessions begin on EMV, mobile and transit tracks. These presentatons will address a number of current payments industry issues:
- EMV in the U.S. — How can the industry provide clarity for banks, credit unions, issuers and merchants on the steps required for a successful migration?
- NFC and mobile payments — How will the smartphone "wallet wars" evolve? Will consumers and retailers embrace NFC technology and mobile payments?
- Transit open loop payments — Major cities have ambitious plans to upgrade their fare collection systems to accept bankcard payments. Can smaller transit operators participate, too? How will mobile payments and EMV impact the transit industry?
The day before the summit opens, SCA will host a workshop covering the ways EMV changes payments, as well as meetings of EMV Migration Forum subcommittees. The organization will also hold an all-day training course for individuals planning to take the Certified Smart Card Industry Professional exam on Feb. 6.
