Bankcard challenger China UnionPay announced over the weekend that it will be expanding into Nepal through that country's largest commercial lending institution, Himalayan Bank.
As a result of the agreement between the two providers, CUP cardholders will be able to use their cards immediately at Himalayan Bank ATMs and POS devices, said an article at China Daily. The deal also includes the SmartChoice Technologies Ltd. network of ATMs and stores operated by Alpine Card Services Ltd.
In total, China UnionPay bankcards will now be accepted at 70 percent of ATMs and 60 percent of stores in Nepal.
