Soon, ATM users at The Bank of Hawaii could get a friendly "Aloha mai" with their transaction.

According to an article at Maui Now, the bank will roll out Hawaiian-language capability this year. More than 400 of the bank's ATMs are expected to be ready by sometime this summer.

The Hawaiian-language transaction function is a cooperative effort between The Bank of Hawaii, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The Hawaiian language option for the ATMs will include words such as "ahu kiko`o," or "checking account" and "mikini huki kala" or "automated teller machine," the Maui Now story said.

"This is important to help perpetuate the Hawaiian language and our host culture," said Peter Ho, chairman and CEO of the Bank of Hawaii, in a written statement. "We're proud to be the first financial institution to offer Hawaiian language capability on its ATM network."
