Perto India has proposed to set up an ATM plant in Mahindra World City, Jaipur, to manufacture 1,000 ATMs per year, said a news story at timesofindia.com. This would make Perto India Ltd. the fifth largest ATM producer in India.
A Rajasthan state committee has recommended the Perto proposal. If the state cabinet votes favorably on the plan, the Brazilian ATM manufacturer will start production by mid-2013 with an investment of Rs 200 crore ($40.75 million).
Perto officials claim the proposal is still on paper for the time being. "Yes we are coming to Rajasthan," confirmed Roberto Baur, director of Perto India, "though we are still at the negotiation stage with the state government and many things need to be worked out. We have requested the government to provide us the same working conditions that our competitors are getting in Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh."
A Perto India plant would employ 800 to 1,000 people on the manufacturing floor and about 600 people for maintenance and support. "Our aim is to replicate the same plant that we have in Brazil in India,” Baur said. “Initially, our focus will be on local markets but later we will try to cater to the market at Nepal, Pakistan and other neighboring countries.”
