Serbian Minister of Economy Nebojsa Ciric announced that NCR Corp. will invest more than €5 million ($6.5 million) in the first phase of its operations in Serbia, said a report at Balkans.com.
According to the report, NCR will open its first office in Belgrade in late February 2012. The company plans to hire 300 people, including a miniumum of 200 engineers.
"The company will open a high-technology call center to cover a part of Europe, northern Africa and the Near East,” said Ciric. “The job of operators at that call center will be to explain to people in, for example, Bulgaria how to repair a broken ATM.” NCR will also open a research center and hire people from Serbia to work on new software solutions, he said.
In a related story, Balkans.com reported that NCR had shortlisted Turkey for a regional base providing ATM and kiosk solutions for a variety of sectors.
The report said that NCR had specified areas of investment ahead of a planned visit to Turkey this spring. “Engineering and call center investments in Turkey are on the agenda,” NCR CEO Bill Nuti said in an interview.
Nuti said Turkey’s young and well-educated population is an important advantage, and added that the company will invest in Turkey sooner or later.
