According to the Jakarta Globe, the integration of three Indonesian ATM providers into one unified system should be completed by the end of 2012, a central bank official has said.
The unified system would help to generate fee-based income from each interbank transaction and enable Indonesia's 120 commercial banks to cheaply invest in and operate ATM networks, according to the article.
"I have talked to the three [ATM service providers] and they said they are able to conclude it next year," said Ardhayadi Mitroatmodjo, Bank Indonesia's deputy governor, in Bali on Sunday.
The integration of Artajasa Pembayaran Elektronis, Rintis Sejahtera and Daya Network Lestari is part of a central bank plan to prepare an integrated payment system in the country. The program is part of a larger movement to eventually integrate with the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Economic Community.
Ardhayadi said the integration would "allow all banks to get connected so interbank transactions can be done in real time."
