According to AsiaOne, customers of OCBC Bank in Singapore were affected by a technical glitch that shut down ATMs and Internet-banking platforms for more than four hours yesterday.
This glitch prevented the "core banking system from connecting properly to the various front-end banking systems," OCBC said in a statement.
The glitch was first detected around 9 a.m., and banking services were restored by 1:15 p.m.
Customers were still able to carry out manual transactions at branches, with cash withdrawals of up to $2,000 per transaction.
"Our key priorities were to alert as many customers as possible, as quickly as possible - as well as to restore services - to minimize the inconvenience," said David Conner, chief executive of OCBC. "I want to assure our customers that, throughout the period of service disruption, all customer data was protected with appropriate security measures."
Conner said the cause of the glitch will be identified as soon as possible, and measures will be taken to prevent it from happening again.
OCBC is one of the top three local banks in Singapore.
