KAL ATM Software, the Edinburgh, Scotland-based ATM-software company, yesterday announced that it has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for 2011 in the category of International Trade.
The Queen’s Award for international trade recognizes United Kingdom-based businesses that have demonstrated substantial growth in overseas earnings, commercial success and outstanding achievement.

International activity has been and will continue to be the cornerstone of KAL’s business as the preferred provider of ATM software to the world’s leading banks.”
KAL has four regional offices and 11 satellite offices and employs professionals from 20 different nations with software certified in over 30 languages. The company provides software solutions to Citibank, China Construction Bank and UniCredit SpA, a Milan, Italy-based bank. KAL software is installed and supported around the world in more than 80 countries, enabling banks of all sizes to reduce costs and improve competitiveness.
Graham Birse, managing director of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, praised KAL’s honor.
“KAL has long led the way in integrated software for ATMs, which we all depend on for our cash needs,” Birse said. “It sounds [like] a simple thing, but it’s a vital service backed up by sophisticated software, and their [KAL’s] domination of the global market is well attested by this timely award.”
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the highest official U.K. awards for British businesses.
The honor was established as The Queen’s Award for Industry by a royal warrant on Nov. 30, 1965. To be awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade, a company must show a substantial and sustained increase in export earnings over three consecutive 12-month periods, to a level which is outstanding for the products and services. The Queen of England presents the award to companies and individuals based on the advice of the prime minister.
